What is the Feldenkrais Method?

The Feldenkrais Method was Developed by Moshe Feldenkrais after he crippled his knees in a sports accident.  He discovered that by studying ‘how’ he moved, he could improve.  He was able to teach himself to walk without pain.

The method he developed is a gentle, mindful approach to movement that helps people of all ages move better, with greater balance, ease, and overall well-being.

How It Works

Feldenkrais lessons are movement explorations that help you become more aware of how you move. This awareness creates opportunities for change, releasing habitual patterns that may be causing discomfort or limitation. Over time, you’ll discover new options for movement that feel lighter and freer so that you can do more of what you want to more easily.

Why Feldenkrais Is Different

Unlike exercise or stretching routines, Feldenkrais isn’t about working harder - it's about working smarter. You won’t push your body; you’ll learn to listen to it. The method emphasizes quality over quantity, focusing on the how of movement rather than the what.

Who Can Benefit

Whether you’re an athlete looking to improve performance, someone recovering from an injury or surgery, or simply interested in moving through life with less effort and more grace, the Feldenkrais Method can help.

What to Expect in a Session

Feldenkrais sessions come in two forms: group classes (Awareness Through Movement® or ATM) and one-on-one sessions (Functional Integration® or FI). Group classes involve verbally guided movement explorations, while private sessions are hands-on and tailored to your specific needs. Both are done fully clothed and in a comfortable, supportive environment.

How long is a session?

Sessions typically last 45–60 minutes. Please arrive a few minutes early if it’s your first visit.

What should I wear to a session?

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows you to move easily. Layers are helpful, as your body temperature may change during the session.

Is Feldenkrais safe for people with injuries or chronic pain?

The method is gentle and non-invasive, making it a safe option for people recovering from injuries, living with chronic pain, or managing neurological conditions. It’s always advisable to check with your healthcare provider before starting lessons if you have a specific health condition or concern.

Do you accept insurance?

Currently, we do not accept insurance. However, some clients may be able to use their HSA or FSA funds. Check with your provider for details.
